I wrote The Good Enough Mother because it was the book I needed most. It is both a love letter and a permission slip.

In between diaper changes, preschool dropoffs, personal illness, toddler meltdowns and pandemic homeschooling, this book came into existence. Scribbled thoughts on post-it notes, blog posts, articles and thoughts all eventually coalesced, after seven years, into this little collection of ink on paper.

I wrote it while I was in the thick of mothering, healing and raising myself while I raised my babies. I hope that when you read this, you feel seen, known, and not alone.

Praise for The Good Enough Mother: Reimagining Motherhood and Work

Excellent read!

My therapist recommended this book. I learned from it ways to take care of myself while taking care of my children. I learned not to strive for perfection as a mom, but being present. Being able to know your limits and when to step back and breathe.

Personal and Encouraging

The role of mama + business owner is hard – the late nights, early mornings, guilt, fear, tears... all paired with immense joy. It's an emotional rollercoaster and it can feel so lonely at times. Hilary speaks into all of those feelings with a personal + encouraging voice. She lets us know we are a part of something bigger. We can raise our babies, run successful businesses, and still somehow find ourselves in the middle of what seems like a mess. God calls us to be exactly who we are, where we are, and we are good enough.

A poignant and beautiful reflection on the tension of mothering and work.

In this book, Hilary lends us insight into her journey as a mother pursuing both the calling of raising children and pursuing work. Of living in that tension between not just two worlds, but many, and understanding that perfection isn’t the aim in any of them. This distillation of her lived experience is a valuable addition to the many voices speaking into motherhood spheres and work spheres, and a much welcomed placeholder in the little that already exists that speaks to both. If you are a mother, have a mother, or know mother, read this book!

We can have it all. We just have to redefine “all”

I have never felt more seen as a working mom as I did while reading this book. Hilary says, "... we can have it all. We just have to redefine 'all.'" We can "value our children, our personal time, and our work as equally important. Instead of constantly striving for perfection, we can embrace being good enough."

A beautiful gift to the world of moms

Hilary nails it at every turn. Her brutal honesty, amazing faith and hope, and glimpses into her personal journey of being a working mom in these complicated times is so refreshing and inspiring. She puts language to things we can all relate to and brings it back to the center, which is faith. Knowing Hilary personally, I can also attest to her humility and grace, which really is the essence of who God made her. I wish I had read this when my older kids were younger!
